A tailored parking concept for 500 employees and only 110 spaces
When Heineken International's Global Procurement and Global Supply Chain teams relocated to The Base D at Amsterdam Schiphol, they brought 500+ employees to a modern building with just 110 underground parking spaces. Many employees were commuting from Zoeterwoude, 30 km away, making parking access a genuine daily concern. Heineken assembled a cross-functional Mobility Tribe and partnered with Izix to design a custom parking concept built around fairness, data, and flexibility.

Designing a fair and functional parking system for a new headquarters
Relocating 500+ employees to a space with 110 parking spots required a structured, policy-driven approach not just a first-come, first-served free-for-all.
- Severe capacity mismatch: only 110 spaces for 500+ employees, many commuting from 30 km away with limited public transport alternatives.
- No existing allocation framework: without a structured policy, parking access was arbitrary and created internal friction.
- Complex employee profiles: different commute distances, travel time differences between car and public transport, and varying work patterns required a nuanced allocation model.
- Need for real-time monitoring: as the car park approached capacity, the system needed to react dynamically offering nearby alternatives or carpooling prompts.

A rights-based reservation system built around commute logic and real-time availability
Working closely with Heineken's Mobility Tribe, Izix co-designed a parking policy and digital platform (the Heineken Portal) that allocates access fairly based on each employee's commuting profile.
- Commute-based parking rights: each employee is assigned parking rights based on commuting distance and the gap in travel time between car and public transport ensuring fairness across the workforce.
- Two-tier access model: Group 1 (priority commuters) can reserve up to a week in advance; Group 2 (all others) can book up to 48 hours ahead based on live availability.
- Dedicated Heineken Portal: a branded reservation platform (heineken.parkres.nl) developed by Izix for fast, efficient booking and continuous demand monitoring.
- Multiple access methods: employees enter via keycard, QR code, or license plate recognition with Izix supplying the hardware.
- Dynamic overflow management: when capacity is nearly full, the system automatically notifies employees and redirects them to nearby alternatives or suggests carpooling.
